The people behind the brand
While rebuilding his 1986 ’90 in college, Justin fell in love with the Defender’s field-strippable, easily disassembled design.
He has since focused on refining the Defender platform with long-distance reliability at the center-stage.
He believes strongly that a fully analog, field-reparable approach is key, and that when built properly, vintage land Rovers are the ideal vehicles for trans-continental travel.
Sam, a proud half Kiwi raised in South West London, has spent most of his life chasing the horizon, usually in flip-flops and usually in something with four wheels.
He has developed a lifelong passion for travel, classic 4x4s, and the stories found between borders. His love for adventure was cemented in 2015 when he took on the 18,000 km Mongol Rally, crossing 18 countries and 2 continents on a route through Turkey, the Caucasus, the Caspian Sea, and Central Asia.
Sam began exporting vehicles at 17 years old and later founded Samuel Lloyd & Co, building a reputation for sourcing and shipping collectible Land Rovers and European classics to enthusiasts worldwide.
His commitment to conservation started years earlier through fundraising for Cool Earth, where he gained a deeper understanding of how community-led projects protect vulnerable ecosystems. That experience ultimately paved the way for his current role as COO of Bush Bottles, helping transform plastic pollution into opportunity through partnerships that support local communities and safeguard wild landscapes.
At Pods Overland, Sam combines his logistics expertise, eye for timeless design, and passion for responsible exploration. His focus is simple: build exceptional, expedition-ready Defenders that inspire people to go further and protect the places that make adventure possible.
